Frequently asked questions
What exotic animals do you treat?
The exact species treated may vary by clinic. Please contact your local practice for confirmation.
Do I need to book a special appointment?
No special appointment is usually required. You can typically book a standard exotic pet consultation. However, some procedures may need a specialist or extended appointment. It’s best to call ahead so we can accommodate your pet’s specific needs.
What should I bring to my exotic pet’s first visit?
Please bring:
- A secure, species-appropriate carrier or enclosure
- Any available medical records or history
- Notes or photos about habitat, diet, and behaviour
- For reptiles and amphibians: use a towel or heat pack to help maintain temperature during transit, but avoid overheating. The risk of burns or heat stress is greater than mild cooling, so please speak to your local practice for advice before travelling
Do you offer emergency services for exotic pets?
Emergency availability varies between clinics. Some practices offer urgent care during evenings or weekends, while others partner with 24-hour emergency hospitals. If your exotic pet is unwell outside our normal hours, please call us first and we’ll advise on the best next steps.
How often should my exotic pet have a checkup?
We recommend at least one health check a year for healthy adult exotic pets. Young or newly acquired animals should have an early check-up, and older pets, particularly rabbits, often benefit from more frequent visits, such as twice-yearly exams to monitor age-related changes.
